Find The Greenest Desktop Computers Of 2008

Nowadays, green products are trend. Actually, these products are not only trend, but also a way to save our beloved earth. Green PCs have appeared in the market with some brands. However, sometimes we confused to know the greenest PC. Ehm, just check these things, namely hazardous components elimination and power consumption. Besides, look at the power supply efficiency, recycling program from the vendors, and the packaging.

To make you easier, recent days some eco-certifications made. There are two main certifications, such as Energy Star 4.0, RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), and EPEAT (Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool).

1.Dell’s Studio Hybrid PC

This product has been reviewed in the previous entry. Studio Hybrid was produced by Dell. If you find the most energy efficient PC and smallest desktop that Dell has ever made. Studio Hybrid just consumer 1 W energy as it is off. When the system fully works, it only consumes 44W.

Energy Star 4.0 certification has been given to Studio Hybrid, but it only got silver from EPEAT.

2. Lenovo’s ThinkCentre M57/M57p

Lenovo’s Think Centre M57/M57p got Energy Star 4.0, RoHS, and gold from EPEAT. This green product just 58 W power when it works at top. The materials (90% of it) can be recycled and comes from re-usable. Also 90% of the package can be recycled.


For either monitor type, there are DVI and VGA ports.

It is limited to Intel GMA 3100 graphics.

3. Apple Mac Mini

Apple Mac Mini got a Silver from EPEAT. Apple Mac Mini is so efficient because only uses 20 till 28 W. 90 percent of the materials can be recycled.

4. Zonbu Desktop Mini

Zonbu Desktop Mini received Energy Star 4.0, EPEAT Gold, and RoHS certifications. The company also has a recycling program. The packaging can be recycled.

It is based on Linux. You can not find a hard drive because the data saves online. First, the costumers buy the computer for $99 or $299. Then, online storage service subscription is needed. It costs $12.95 per month. Zonbu only uses 11 W energy.
