Guitar Oscillations Captured with iPhone 4

I just happened upon this trick when testing what it was like filming from inside my guitar. *Note this effect is due to the rolling shutter, which is non-representative of how strings actually vibrate. Tips: • You must have the strings brightly backlit to get the camera to capture at such a high frame rate (pure conjecture). You can see how the effect fades when the buildings come into view. • Use a pencil *This was used with the front facing camera, try the back camera, it may capture better! (tried it, it didn’t look as good for me) There is a heated discussion with *real science* over at reddit www.reddit.com *UPDATE here is the ‘tracklist’ :14 – “Tears in Heaven” by Eric Clapton :56 – “Signe” by Eric Clapton 2:57 – Snippet of “Tomorrow Land” by John Scofield – the rest is just noodling around. Also, I never thought I’d be known as a ‘youtube guitarist’, I just play for fun- I’m actually a motion graphics designer/animator. Check out www.justkyle.com follow me on twitter! http

I will show you how easy it is for someone to steal the information on your phone and more importantly, how to prevent it. I will be using my very own phone as a tester, and purchasing the software that would be used to hijack your phone completely. This process takes less than 5 minutes. A jailbroken iPhone is required but similar spying applications also exist on android and various other smart phones where a jailbreak is not required. 1. You should do a whole song with that urban background, and other scenes. Cool!

There’s always the possibility that it could be fake; I agree. But I believe it’s real, and the only thing that makes these videos special is the iphone 4’s way of capturing video. But best of luck to you! Post videos of cool things if you find a suitable phone.

  3. @RisingPhoenix120

I think I must have watched this video about 10 times today….. the mathematician/physics enthusiast in me want to think “oh yeah of course!”…. and then the other voice in my head is saying “don’t believe every video you see”. All I know is I have to find someone with an iphone 4… :)

  4. @ElRoberto182

I believe it is caused by the fact (correct me if I’m wrong) that the iPhone captures video/images from one side to another. This video isn’t implying that the string has points, but when capturing video from one side to another at a low frame rate, you can achieve an effect like this.

  5. Fake. “rolling shutter” or not, at no point when a string is plucked does it have points or corners. Nice editing work.

  6. ???!

  7. @mateusnds *Note this effect is due to the rolling shutter, which is non-representative of how strings actually vibrate.

  8. this is ot fake, i made a video like this also after watching this. i used an ipod nano 5g but i think any camera should work. the important thing is there needs to a lot of light behind the strings, but if the sun is directly behind at will be too much light, but a clear blue sky will work ;)

  9. might be cooler if the Guitar was in tune and the? guy could actually play.

  10. FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe
