Isn’t the Galaxy Tab 7 inches? I’d say that’s why it’s cheaper.
I’d wait for more Android 3.0+ devices to be released.

It Depends on What your looking For.
But I would Recommend The iPad 2, for these Reasons,
It has a 10 hour battery (10 hours real time, playing games and movies, still 10 hours)
The app Store had around 300,000 apps, and over 60,000 made specifically for the ipad, (100s of thousands more than android based tablets) free ones as well
Great for communication, Has front facing and and rear facing camera, for facetime (Facetime is video calling that goes to other ipads, macs, 4th gen ipod touches, and iPhone 4s) and Video and pics(no LED flash)
IOS 4.3 (current Operating system) is more stable.
Better looking, and thinnest on the market, (thinner than the iPhone 4) and very light

I personally would save some cash an get an ipad 1 refurbished. They are not that different and you can save some money. The biggest differences is multi tasking, which sounds impressive, but in my experience it actually doesn’t matter that much.
You could get a basic ipad wifi for just $399 ($100 less than apples current basic ipad):

As for the ipad vs galaxy tab question – it really depends on you. The ipad is a more in the box solution, with everything “just working” because it’s all under apples control.
If you want an easy flawless experience your better with an ipad, but if you want a more chaotic but perhaps more “free” experience then the galaxy tab.
i have a tablet that have samsung CPU and better spec work perfect.
i dont see any reason to buy a brand name tablet when you can get the same CPU at less price with android 2.2
