Q&A: How can you tell if a playstation 3 console is refurbished or not?
Question by David: How can you tell if a playstation 3 console is refurbished or not?
How can you tell if a playstation 3 console is refurbished or not? I’m thinking of buying a sealed PS3 console on craigslist but don’t want to buy a refurbished unit. Is there any way you can tell? Will it say refurbished on it? Should I look for unbroken seals? Is there a particular screen that it goes to when you turn it on? Thanks!

For any refurbished goods I would buy it through the original manufacturer for peace of mind. Refurbished products (that have been refurbished by the manufacturer) should go through a process of inspection to check seals are intact, whether it may have scratches, etc. The upside to getting refurbished is you save a lot of money but you don’t know what condition it is in. If you buy it from Sony chances are (I haven’t but I have bought a refurbished MacBook Pro from Apple today) they will wipe the hard drive and put the standard software on. Sometimes, the PS3 may not be used, maybe just an unwanted gift or something. A refurbished product is just basically a used product that is returned by the owner and looked at and sold for a cheaper price.
Also it doesn’t say refurbished on the side and it has standard software that will ask you to setup everything I think (no particular screen)
I wouldn’t think of buying it through craigslist though.
Hope I could help.

i doubt that there will be a sticker, on but if you want to check it out you have to actually look at it, like you have to look on its sides and see if the void warrentee sticker has been removed if it has it has been opened sence it was new, if not i could have only been refurbished by sony..
