Mostly hard drive size, however, the very first released model (identifiable by having the little hatch with card slots underneath, shiny silver trim instead of flat grey, and (most important) being the old fat style) could play PS2 games.
Which is ironic, because the oldest PS3 did more than the new ones, and the new slogan is “It only does everything.”
