How do I increase my ram and how much will it cost?
Question by .: How do I increase my ram and how much will it cost?
So recently I’ve decided to buy a new computer because the one im using is just too old. I’m wondering if it will be better to buy a computer with 1gb of ram and expand it to 3gb. Is it cheaper to do that method or just buy the 3gb ram computer from the store?
Also, i’m not very smart at computers even though i’ve been using them for years. Is expanding ram easy to do?

Upgrading the RAM is not difficult. However, if you have no clue about it, search the ‘Net for some tutorials. There are a ton of them out there.
If you are going to buy a new computer anyway, just get it with 4 gig of RAM and be done with it.
It’s def cheaper to just upgrade your RAM. RAM i really cheap right now, especially online, for example newegg.come (my favorite). Upgrading takes about 2 seconds, you can keep the old stick of ram thats already in, and the new ones you plug in right on the motherboard. They usually come with instructions too, in case you feel you’ve done it wrong. Most programs now today can’t access more than 2gb or RAM at once though, so to be honest you might be better off just buying a 1gb. Unless you have Vista, because it needs extra RAM. Hope that helps
I’m not sure about the cost, but I believe buying the computer with the most ram is the best. If you don’t know much about them, you could get a computer that won’t accept much more ram.
But if you can get them to tell you how much more ram a particular computer can take, it’s easy to add ram. You simply look at the diagram on the inside of the cover. This will show you what size ram cards the computer will take and which slot they go in.
To change them, simply shut down your computer and disconnect the power supply(the chord). Then you either snap out a card and replace it with a larger one, or snap a new card into an empty slot.
It’s all simple if you read the cover and do the math.
It is usually easier and sometimes cheaper to purchase a computer with the hardware already installed (covered under warranty).
Purchasing additional memory varies, based on the type of RAM and make/model of the computer.
Memorystore.com will allow you to search prices on various RAM memory. If you have an idea of the make/model of the computer you want, check the prices online, and then plug in the computer info in memorystore.com. Example: Memory for the Dell Inspiron 531S (sold at walmart) can go for 19.99 to 27.00 depending on the make of the RAM on memorystore.com
It is extremely easy to install additional memory on desktops. Open computer, find the slot and push it in.
