How does Computer Ram make a computer faster and deliver better performance?

Question by Kevin: How does Computer Ram make a computer faster and deliver better performance?
Hi there. I was just wondering why its such a big thing these days to have a ridiculous amount of ram in a computer? People tell me that the more Ram you have in your computer the faster your computer will be. I always thought that it was the processor that controls the speed of a computer and not the Ram.

I had 512MB of Ram in my laptop and I have now changed it to 2Gigs of Ram and I’ve seen no difference in performance what so ever.
Could somebody please explain to me what does Ram does exactly?
Thanks in advance

RAM is about 50 to 500 times faster than the hard drive. If there is insufficient RAM, the computer will have to write things to the hard drive and then read them back later when it needs them, slowing things down considerably. However, if you have enough RAM to hold the information the computer is working on at any particular time, more won’t help significantly.

  1. If you imagine your PC as a workshop, RAM is the worktable.
Everything happens on the table, and if the table is full, some space must be cleared by moving it elsewhere.

A typical drag on performance on a PC is when you run out of RAM, the PC has to swap something out to make room for what it needs to work on.

You should see a lot of difference in RAM hungry programs, but next to no difference in less hungry programs. Primarily, your hard drive should be grinding a lot less.

  2. Firstly ram means random access memory. The computer needs ram for its smooth working. It speed up the copying process, the booting process, internet browsing, buffering in youtube, gaming speed, and lots more.
Then, you said 2 gigs of ram did not feel any thing, because of the poor ram. Try tranceneds rams. I had 512 ram before, and now i am using 2 gigs
    Ok?

  3. hii friend if you want that your Ram make a computer faster & deliver better performance…..so there is a simple way take a eraser & clean the yellow points on the Ram……..ok:)
