Your description tells me you are badly confused about something.
SATA is not RAM, it is a type of disk interface. ATA, SATA, and a couple of other variants are all ways of interfacing one or more disks to your I/O bus.
There are more than two types of RAM. To find what is right for you, you need to know the model number of the computer. If it was a custom job, find the model and maker of the motherboard. When you look up that model & maker information, you can usually find a spec sheet that would tell you how much RAM you can load and what kind you need – DDR, DDR2, DDR3, or non-DDR. You would also know the preferred speed of those chips. The spec sheet would also tell you what increments you could use – 1 Gb/chip, 0.5 Gb/chip, etc. It would tell you how many chips you could install. It would tell you if you needed to buy two chips at a time because of interleaving recommendations. All of those things would be available from the spec sheet.
Without that spec sheet, nobody will be able to answer that question for you. With it, the information you ask would be right there in the spec sheet. Sometimes the makers will offer a small manual in .PDF format. In such cases, the manual would tell you what you needed to know.
