What motherboard is needed to use i7 Nehalem processors?

Question by Mekanik: What motherboard is needed to use i7 Nehalem processors?
I have a P5Q pro currently. Am I correct in assuming that it doesn’t support the I7 Nehalem processors? If so, what is a good motherboard to get to use with them?

You are correct; your current board cannot support an i7.

You need something with an LGA1366 socket. I believe only the Intel X58 chipset supports it currently as well.

  1. To use a Core i7 you’re going to need a motherboard with socket 1366 and an X58 chipset.

Also i7 can only use DDR3.
