IBM Starts to Save the World by Studying Chocolate



There’s an unique thing done by International Business Machines Corp. (IBM). It studies cocoa tree genetic code to save to world. IBM cooperated with US government and Mars Inc, a candy company. If it succeed, they will save the supply of chocolate.

But how IBM does its research? Firstly, US Agriculture Department and Marcs. Inc will analyze the code of cocoa genome. Then, using a Blue Gene supercomputer, IBM will analyze this result. After that, the experts can isolate the plant types which’re able to hold out from insects, fungus, and the environmental problems came from global warming and draught.

If this research succeeds, they will save world supply of cocoa and also help African society. It is because Africa produces two- thirds of cocoa in the world. However, many of the trees became stunted because of insects, fungus, and drought. Even, not only African farmers will be helped by this 5 years project, but also Asian and South American farmers
